Today marks six weeks since the start of 2011. By now most people have completely given up on their New Year's resolutions or are at least waning in their motivation. I don't officially make resolutions every year because with my Type-A perfectionist personality, I am basically setting myself up for failure. The first day I skip following through on a resolution....well, I guess I'll just have to scrap the whole thing and start over next year! (Crazy, I know.) However, I am working on consistency...not perfection. I am all about GOALS though. Without goals, how do you know where you're going? It's like taking a trip, but having no idea where you're headed. It might be fun for awhile (not for me....remember my personality type?!), but there's so many things that you'll miss without a plan and a map!
So as 2010 was coming to an end, I spent some time evaluating where I am, where I want to be and how I'm going to get there. I broke down the areas of my life and set goals in each of them. So here's my goals in a nutshell....
Physically - I want to be healthier and take care of this one body that God has given me. My ways to do that are exercise and eating foods that are good for me. I am committing to exercising 5 days a week and keeping a food journal for at least 2 days a week.
Mentally - I want to fill my mind with words of wisdom and encouragement. My way to do that is read, read, READ! I am committing to reading 1 book a month. I can't even remember the last time I read a book the whole way through, so this one will prove to be a challenge! I'll be blogging about what I'm reading for accountability.
Spiritually - I want to grow closer to God. For the first time in my life, I am committing to reading the Bible all the way through this year. I am also going to be memorizing a passage of Scripture each month and will keep myself accountable by posting it here. Most importantly, I need to take the time to be still before God. I will be making time to spend with my Lord first thing every morning, before the chaos of the day begins.
So there you have it. I will be posting updates on my progress in each of these areas. I also have financial goals for this year and Mike and I are already on our way in that area by attending Dave Ramsey's Financial Peace University. It started this last week and I'm really looking forward to "living like no one else so later we can live like no one else."
So....no more resolutions, but instead, I'm focusing on my God and on my goals. Without Him, there'd be no reason for them and without His help, it would all be futile anyways.
